IMPRESSIVE WAVE EFFECTS WITH A SENSE OF DEPTH
A DISTINCTIVE RESTAURANT DESIGN WITH GLOSSY METAL SURFACES
In the beautiful town of Glücksburg on the Baltic Sea, Glück in Sicht Hospitality GmbH & Co. KG offers a wide range of gastronomy and hospitality services. Idyllic hotels and lodges are just as much a part of the group as the culinary and atmospherically appealing restaurants and cafes. Each restaurant and holiday accommodation has its own unique charm. The newly opened restaurant “Glück in Sicht Hafencity” in Hamburg also radiates a distinct character, which is a real eye-catcher thanks to the use of Homapal's textured real metal surface.
The Glück in Sicht Hafencity Restaurant invites guests to linger and offers not only a strong culinary selection, but also a special atmosphere. Julian Haug, Managing Director of Glück in Sicht Hospitality GmbH & Co. KG, is convinced: "The Homapal elements have enabled us to create an impressive ceiling structure that perfectly reflects the theme of water. Our guests are delighted with the unique atmosphere in the bar."
A TRUE EYE-CATCHER WITH HOMAPAL REAL METAL DECORS
The restaurant project in Hafencity was supported by the architectural office klm Architekten Berlin in terms of both concept and design. The goal was to create a bar that would be both visually appealing and welcoming to guests. Due to the proximity of the restaurant to the water, a ceiling solution was sought that impressively reflects the water and its wave-like structure, symbolising the regional connection to the Elbe.
Many different materials were considered in the search for a suitable option, from various mirrors to metal constructions, none of which proved feasible for aesthetic and structural reasons. The challenge was to find a surface that met the visual requirements without exceeding the permitted ceiling load-bearing capacity. With the Homapal real metal surface 470/636 Alu Mirror Polished Lava Natural, a solution was found that was both practical and visually compelling. The ceiling structure was installed by two technicians within two days.
The lava texture created a unique look, further enhanced by the reflective material and the restaurant’s proximity to the water. Thanks to the reflective properties of the ceiling surface, the water and deep-pressed mirror-finish material are able to reflect wave-like patterns and interact stylistically with light, creating fascinating surface effects. This approach was also applied in the ceiling design for the project. By combining various light sources such as a large central ceiling chandelier and a blue LED strip around it, the reflective properties of the material were highlighted to full effect.
The interplay between the material surface and the lighting installations makes the ceilings look like they are from another world. The result conveys dynamism and elegance, creating an extraordinary atmosphere. Paired with the copper-look bar front, the bar becomes a genuine focal point.
